Why Start Now?

Why AI Discovery Starts Now

AI discovery is a process, not an event.

Search and AI systems need information in order to understand businesses, products, services and their relevance to the questions people ask. That understanding can develop and improve as information is discovered, processed, clarified, updated and maintained.

There is no guaranteed "first mover" ranking advantage simply because a business starts earlier. But there is a practical advantage.

The sooner you begin building your AI presence, the sooner that process can begin.

01

Discovery takes time

Search and AI discovery are not instantaneous. Search engines discover, crawl, process and revisit information over time. New and updated information may take time to be found and processed.

Waiting does not create an advantage. Beginning earlier simply allows the discovery and knowledge-building process to begin earlier. Age on its own does not create authority.

The value of starting earlier is time, not seniority. More time to establish information, more time to correct it, and more time to keep it current.

02

AI needs enough information to understand relevance

A business name and service category provide only limited context. People often describe a situation rather than a category.

They may not ask

Find an orthodontist.

They may ask

My teenager is embarrassed about braces. What options are available near me?

They may not ask

Find a roofing contractor.

They may ask

We had hail last night and now I think my roof is leaking. Who should I call?

AI discovery increasingly involves understanding the situation and intent behind the question, not simply matching a traditional category or keyword. That is why INDEXIS develops business knowledge across four areas.

Customer Language

The words customers actually use when they describe what they need.

Customer Situations

The real-life situations that bring people to a business like yours.

Services & Products

What you offer, in clear and confirmed detail.

Business Information

Hours, locations, service areas, contact details and the practical facts.

03

Knowledge becomes richer over time

A business does not need to know every possible AI discovery question on day one. INDEXIS progressively asks the business to confirm, clarify or expand pieces of information that improve its AI Knowledge Profile.

  1. Step 1

    Establish

Create an AI Knowledge Profile with confirmed core facts about the business, its location and its services.

  2. Step 2

    Clarify

Answer short Knowledge Requests that resolve information that is missing, ambiguous or out of date.

  3. Step 3

    Expand

Add customer situations, customer language, service detail and business facts as the profile develops.

  4. Step 4

    Maintain

Keep confirming and updating information as services, customers and the market evolve.

In month one, AI systems can understand the core business, its location and its services. Over time the profile can become richer with customer situations, terminology, service details, frequently asked questions, business facts and other confirmed knowledge. This is accumulation of knowledge, not a promise of improved ranking.

04

Accuracy and freshness matter

Information about a business changes, and a static profile can gradually become inaccurate.

  • Hours change
  • Services change
  • Staff changes
  • Service areas change
  • Customer questions change
  • Products and capabilities change

INDEXIS is designed not only to establish an AI Knowledge Profile but to help maintain it over time. Knowledge Maintenance and ongoing Knowledge Requests prompt the business to confirm what is still accurate and update what has changed.

05

Starting sooner means learning sooner

AI discovery is becoming increasingly measurable. Technology platforms are beginning to expose information about how websites and content are surfaced, cited or referenced within AI-powered experiences.

A business that begins establishing its AI presence earlier can begin observing this evolving environment earlier, and make better-informed improvements as it learns.

06

You don't have to go all-in to get started.

AI discovery is still evolving. Businesses shouldn't have to make a large commitment simply to begin preparing for it.

INDEXIS lets you start with a free AI Knowledge Profile. Begin establishing the information that describes your business. Continue improving it through Knowledge Requests. Keep important information current. And observe the activity around your profile as it develops.

Then, if you begin seeing results and decide you want to do more, you can explore additional INDEXIS capabilities. There is no requirement to upgrade simply because you started. Your free profile can continue doing what the Free plan allows.

  1. 01

    Start free

    Create your AI Knowledge Profile.

  2. 02

    Build

Respond to Knowledge Requests and develop richer, more useful business knowledge.

  3. 03

    Maintain

Keep the information accurate and fresh as your business changes.

  4. 04

    Observe

See when your profile and AI-readable elements are being requested or accessed.

  5. 05

    Decide

If the activity and value justify doing more, explore additional INDEXIS capabilities.

Fetch activity shows when INDEXIS profile information or AI-readable resources are being requested or accessed. A fetch is not a lead, a customer or a recommendation. But increasing activity can be a useful signal that your information is being reached more frequently, and it gives you something real to evaluate before deciding whether to do more.

No forced upgrade. No need to predict the future. Start building now and decide what makes sense as your AI presence develops.

Starting now vs. waiting

Business that starts now

  • Creates its AI Knowledge Profile
  • Begins organizing and validating business knowledge
  • Continues answering Knowledge Requests
  • Adds customer situations and customer language
  • Corrects incomplete or outdated information
  • Builds a richer maintained knowledge profile over time

Business that waits

  • Its existing public information remains whatever is currently available
  • No INDEXIS Knowledge Profile is being developed
  • No INDEXIS Knowledge Requests are being accumulated
  • Missing or ambiguous information remains unaddressed through INDEXIS
  • When the business eventually begins, it starts the INDEXIS knowledge-building process at that point

A business that waits is not being penalized. Starting earlier simply gives the knowledge-building process more time to develop.

No one can guarantee AI placement

Starting earlier does not guarantee preferential placement or ranking in ChatGPT, Google, Microsoft Copilot, or any other AI system. INDEXIS does not control how independent AI platforms rank, cite or recommend businesses.

What starting earlier does provide is more time to establish, improve, validate and maintain the information available to help AI systems understand the business.

What AI platforms tell us

OpenAI / ChatGPT

OpenAI says public websites can appear in ChatGPT search, and that allowing OAI-SearchBot helps content be discovered, cited and linked in ChatGPT. For businesses, the important point is that AI systems need access to clear, public information before they can use it when answering someone's question.

Perplexity

Perplexity describes itself as an AI-powered search engine that searches the web and produces conversational answers backed by citations and links to original sources. Someone asks a question, and Perplexity looks for information it can use to build an answer.

Microsoft / Copilot

Microsoft now reports when website content is cited in AI-generated answers across Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and supported AI experiences. Its AI Performance reporting shows which pages were cited and which grounding queries were connected to those citations.

Google

Google remains important because information first needs to be discoverable and understandable on the open web. Google explains that its systems crawl pages, analyze their content and return information relevant to a user's query.

What this means for a business

The common thread is simple

AI systems need information they can find and understand.

But knowing that a business exists is only the beginning.

When someone asks: "I need to sell my condo in downtown Edmonton. Who should I talk to?" the AI needs more than a business name and phone number. It needs enough context to understand:

  • what the business does
  • who it helps
  • the situations it is relevant to
  • the services it provides
  • where it operates
  • the language customers use when describing their needs

That is the layer INDEXIS is designed to build and maintain.

That's what INDEXIS is built for

Your AI presence shouldn't be left entirely to whatever information happens to exist about your business online. INDEXIS gives your business a structured way to participate.

  • Create an AI Knowledge Profile
  • Confirm what your business does
  • Capture the situations your customers actually experience
  • Add the language customers use when looking for help
  • Keep important business information current
  • Continue improving that knowledge over time

INDEXIS helps you actively build the knowledge AI can use to understand your business.
